*SHANAN CLASSICAL TUTORIALS are tutorial courses for 9th - 12th grade students.  (Some classes are open to 8th graders: Algebra 1, Logic 1, Physical science, Speech in spring, as well as Study Skills Workshop in August). These classes are open to home schooled students who have been full-time home schooled at least one year, including the year prior to enrolling for these classes.

*       The purpose of Shanan Classical is to offer pre-college tutorial courses which will enhance the homeschooled student's experience.  We provide a rigorous line-up of courses which are the basics for high school graduation as well as a thorough preparation for higher education.  Whether college or career bound, all students need a good education from a Biblical world view.

*       The courses and tutors do not replace the parent as the primary teacher.   Each student is expected to complete the homework outside of class time and be prepared to participate in class.   Parents are expected to follow up to make sure the student is accomplishing the required homework.  Shanan is not a good fit for families who simply want to turn over responsibility of overseeing their student’s progress to someone else, nor for families that simply want to check the courses off their list.  We take education seriously (but can still have fun learning) and hope to find like-minded families to join us!

*       We require students to work hard, monitored closely by their parents; there is a mandatory Orientation Meeting for parents and students on Monday, August 22, 7 pm, at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church.

*       WHEN:  Mondays and Wednesdays.  8:00 am to 4:45 pm.

          CALENDAR SCHEDULE for 2011-2012:

ORIENTATION WEEK:  Aug. 22-26.  PLEASE RESERVE THIS ENTIRE WEEK on your calendar which includes a mandatory Orientation Meeting and course sign-in on Mon., August 22.

In addition, throughout the week, workshops will occur for various courses, special classes will be offered (study skills, SAT PREP), and a debate camp will be held on Tuesday (required for debate class students; also open to interested homeschoolers).
